Hey there!
Dreaming of visiting unknown lands and exploring unseen places all by yourself?
Thinking about stepping out into the world as a wanderer and discovering the joy of travelling independently, for the first time? If you are, then read on to find some interesting tips for a beginner traveller, and if you weren’t – well, after reading this, you’ll definitely want to travel!
Because after all, the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.
Travel and change of place impart new vigour to the mind. Once you are bitten by the travel bug, it becomes impossible to resist the pleasure that travelling gives us. The sense of freedom that independent travel imparts is unparalleled. Here are a few factors that might help you start well on the path of a lifelong passion.
1. Money matters
The two things essential to travelling are – the finance and the destination. Money is a common issue for everyone, especially with students. So choose wisely whether you are in a financial state to travel or not, because travel means unexpected expenses at times, which may result in problems if you’re unprepared, money-wise. Choosing a destination that is economical is always a good idea. Travelling to places during off-season is another way to save expenses by avoiding the overpriced tourist season.

2. Choosing a destination
Your choice of destination depends solely on you – the kind of traveller you are. Are you the kind who loves to be lost in the beauty of nature or love the hustle-bustle of exploring a new city? Do you enjoy a peaceful and tranquil travel experience or one that is thrilling and adventurous? Travel to off-beat places, that haven’t yet been commercialised for hordes of tourists. Choose a unique destination which you will enjoy, that’ll also be pocket-friendly for you.

3. The right gear
If you plan on bag-packing, make sure that you are well-equipped with essential gear like ropes, a knife, torch, chain etc. Speaking with seasoned trekkers and bag-packers before setting out for your trip will offer you a deeper insight about its nitty-gritties.
4. Make new friends
New places teach you new things and let you meet new people. It takes courage to talk to strangers but everyone is in the same boat. All around you are other solo travellers looking for friends. They want to know new people too. So don’t feel shy in approaching fellow travellers and connecting with them, you may just find lifelong friends in them.
5. Stay alert
Stepping out as a newbie traveller, it is essential that you stay aware of your surroundings. Be careful about the kind of people you befriend on your travels, and stay away from people you feel intuitively suspicious about. Most people are good and ready to help, so do not hesitate to ask for help if you need it. Take basic precautions to prevent thievery. There’s nothing wrong with being a little cautious.
6. Relax
This might just be the most important thing on this list. Travelling is meant for leisure and pleasure, so travel slow, and enjoy your travel experience. Don’t lose yourself to petty worries – remember to have fun!
So go ahead, stuff your eyes with wonder. Live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It is, in every sense, way more fantastical than any dream seen, made or paid for in factories.
