When there is resentment between two individuals, there is bound to be an argument. Unless and until both of them talk to each other and resolve the issue, there is no end to the problem. Lack of communication and continued anger and frustration is the cause of displeasure in any relationship.
My poem, ‘The Fiendfyre’, is named so after a dark magic curse which generates an inextinguishable fire. The poem compares such growing resentment and the eventual drift in the relationship to this aforementioned fire.

It started as a slight friction-
An opposition of their thoughts
He thought he was right; she knew she was
Oh – what a clash it brought!
Like a flint on stone, it lighted up
Simmering low – but deep
Feeding on their passive resentment
It found its grounds – slowly tightening its grip.
Both were equally undulating
None would admit defeat
They could see their end approaching
But talking it out? What an impossible feat.
The anger and frustration at each other
Kept accumulating, rotting, deep in their hearts
Finding no outlet, it spread despair
Distancing them, taking them further apart
They couldn’t hold it within them any longer
Finally their limit was reached
All it took was one gesture – a tiny push
And the ugly monster was unleashed
Words – what power they hold
Capable of both inflicting pain and remedying it
And wound each other with words, they did
Cutting deep gashes, scarring – right where it hurt the most.
Thus their angst finally found words
But now it was too late
Their anguish made their souls writhe in pain
But they knew they’d brought upon themselves, this cruel turn of fate.
The simmering fire had unleashed its wrath
Their clash tore them forever apart
Like the crackle of wood as flames strike the log-
Burning their souls and charring their hearts.
